Geo W Peck and H A Lathrop head the democratic state ticket for governor and lieutenant governor after a six oclock nomination at Oshkosh. LaFollette democrats were rejected and a plank opposing primary election law adopted. Conservatives reportedly control the convention as factions move toward a final slate in the evening session. Fire calls Monday revealed incendiary origins, with two small box fires at Ellsworth and Lindemann homes and an attempted church arson at the Presbyterian church found Wednesday. The mayor leads an investigation with a probable culprit identified.

Withee defeated the local team 16 to 7 last Sunday though the early innings were tight. John Thomas hit a home run on his first swing and starred at first base after a layoff. Home runs by Thomas Stauss Tallant Stewart and Brazeene complemented strong defense by Seubert and solid pitching by Revour.

Monument Erected Over Walter H. Smith Grave At Withee
L C Schmidt, local monument dealer, set up a massive ten ton Wausau granite monument in two pieces over Walter H. Smith’s grave at Withee. The stone required a derrick and broke a loader and a car en route. Schmidt was the lowest bidder among many competitors for the job.

Frosty opening falls flat at La Follette rally
A La Follette campaign meeting opened at the armory last Saturday to a sparse crowd despite county wide advertising and invitations. Judge Andrews presided, T. W. Rsteward spoke unexpectedly, and M. B. Cochems delivered a vigorous address attacking railway taxation and the national Republican Committee while praising Governor La Follette despite a weak turnout.
