A county political upset unfolds as halfbreed Republican candidates fear voter backlash after a county convention failed to nominate National Republican names. Promises of placements to A B Corey and F Lester were rejected, Pittsville townspeople denounce the behavior, and talks to replace Vinton G Nason with Corey continue amid tense negotiations.
Notice for sugar beet farmers in the Chippewa Falls area informs that beet lifters are in possession of Herman Bauer and available by contacting him. The Marshfield region reports 129 acres contracted for beets this year, with 110 acres sowed yielding well. Bauer anticipates shipping 86 to 100 cars from Marshfield and Hewitt before December 1, and expects substantial growth next year with at least 500 acres planted.
Jeffris of Janesville, a top Wisconsin Republican speaker, will address Wood county voters next Saturday evening Oct 29 at the Armory and Opera House. Organizers expect a large crowd from Grand Rapids, Babcock, Neksosa, Pittsville and beyond with special trains planned. Jeffris will speak first at the Armory after 8 o'clock then address attendees at the opera house with Mr Stebbins of Milwaukee entertaining beforehand.
The six year old son of Lewis Punkratz, living between Aur Burndale and Blenker, was accidentally shot Monday evening. A 42 calibre revolver, held by the boy after grabbing a jack knife, fired, piercing the left hand and abdomen. He was taken to the hospital in this city on Tuesday for treatment by Dr Doege. Severe wounds include three bowels holes and may prove fatal. The father recently suffered a house and barn fire.
The Marshfield community congratulates Adam Paulus and Delia Larson after their marriage in Seattle Washington on Monday. The couple plans an extended California and southern states trip before returning home.
Nels Anderson was killed last Friday in St Paul when a freight car struck him after he rode on a ladder near an overhead bridge. He had worked for the Omaha road since April and previously for Wisconsin Central and the old Scott road. The funeral was held Sunday at his brother John Anderson’s home with services by Rev. J P Young and local A C U A W lodge members providing escort to the grave. Mrs Anderson, soon to move back with a four weeks old baby, mourns the loss of her husband and provides a note of family continuity. Attending from out of town were Mr Strandberg and Mr and Mrs Larson of St Paul, Louis and Walter Overbeck and Miss Bine of Grand Rapids.
A rummage sale offers new and second hand clothing, household goods, boots, shoes, hats, crockery, and more at bargain prices. The sale starts Wednesday October 26 at 9 AM at Adler's store on Central Ave and 2nd St. Donations are requested by Monday October 23, with a dray to collect items. Mrs. Matt Wright chairs the ladies committee. Also noted is a wrestling match where Fred Beell defeated Ed Adamson in Grand Rapids last Thursday with several falls, followed by preliminaries.

The Washington postoffice department has approved a county Free Rural Delivery plan for Wood County after a summer inspection. Twenty applicants took the civil service rural carrier exam at Wood County city hall. Marshfield will have four routes. Vesper to Pittsville, Grand Rapids to cover more areas, and potential routes from Nekoosa to serve nearly the whole county.
