At a Wisconsin rail safety conference, railroad officials and the railroad commission agreed to prevent accidents at highway crossings. They proposed flagmen, automatic bell alarms, and illuminated signs where needed, noting Wisconsin has about 9,000 steam and 800 electric road crossings. The commission likely requires automatic bells and illuminated signs at dangerous crossings, while other methods like interlocking crossings were also discussed.
