County Board Elects Brown Chairman At Grand Rapids
The county board met in Grand Rapids Tuesday and elected Geo W Brown of Pittsville chairman by a large margin. A training school was approved 28 to 12, to be housed in the new Grand Rapids high school building pending a new structure. A $100 bill for surveying milestones out of Grand Rapids was presented following Judge Webb's decision. The board named standing committees across finance, equalization, delinquent taxes, printing, public property, roads and more. The Herman case noted mortgage recording importance, and the Central Wisconsin State Fair will open August 24-27 with improvements delayed by weather and plans for a concert hall at the fair grounds.

Wreck Near Boyd Delays Wisconsin Central Trains
A Monday night derailment of ten freight cars on an extra freight derailed between Boyd and Catlett, causing substantial rolling stock damage but no injuries. Blocks of track were cleared after long delays as the two limited trains between 1 and 3 am rerouted via the Omaha track between this city and Eau Claire, delaying service for several hours.

Constitutional debate and society officers noted at high school
High School Notes report a Constitution class debate on direct presidential voting with both sides represented by L. N. Foster and Francis W. Derby for the affirmative and Dorothy Miller and Carrie Christensen for the negative. Judges ruled for the negative. The Literary Society elected officers for the year including L. Elster as President, Grace Coon Vice-president, Loretta Cole Secretary, Wm. Witt Treasurer, Martina Marsh Collector, Francis W. Derby Marshal, and J. B. Borden Critic. Only part of the program occurred Friday due to time. the remainder was scheduled for tonight. The program included piano duets by Martina Marsh and Lulu Elvis, recitation by Anna Wiegl, and a legislative assembly with Speaker to be elected by the assembly. A report from the Public Buildings Committee by Assemblyman R. H. Eiche presented, along with a bill on Taxation of Mortgages by Lottie Smith seconded by Frank Morrison, opposed by Howard Pulling and Dorothy Forest. Recess followed with plans for vote on the bill by the Assembly, an impromptu discussion, a piano solo by Adela Pankow, and the Critic’s Report.
