Special Grand Rapids County Supervisors Meet in Session

In a special session at the Grand Rapids courthouse the county board elected James Hiles of Destryville as chairman. The roll showed numerous members from Auburndale, Centralia, Grand Rapids, Marshfield, Pittsville, Richfield, and other towns. A finance committee was formed to investigate irregularities found in the clerk’s books, indicating a seven hundred dollar shortage. resolutions approved road funding and clerk hire for the county judge’s office, with Orrin Gray named as clerk.

Six Cattle Killed By Passenger Train Accident

A passenger train on the Northwestern road killed six cattle near Stentorg last Saturday after they attempted to cross the track ahead of the engine. The animals, owned by John and Lawrence Hayer, were struck as the train traveled at its normal speed. two were thrown into the air while one was carried about a mile on the cow catcher.

Kicked by Horses Causes Two Arm Injuries in First Week

In Richfield, Jos. Drei suffered a bruised right arm after a kick from a horse named Visions while in Savurdiy. In Mannville, Mrnday evening a horse struck another rider, breaking the right arm near the elbow. The text notes ongoing dangers for settlers and hints at returning old guides.

Marshfield and Southeastern Railroad Extension Plans

Strawford selects Stratford as site for new Town Tut

Special elections were held in Strawford to decide the location of a new Town Tut. The first ballot defeated building the town some miles from the village by 52 to 14. A subsequent vote on Saturday chose Stratford as the site, making Stratford the location for the town project.
