Legislative Doings Show Mixed Prospects In Assembly

Legislative Doings reviews the session’s bills: anti cigarette measures falter despite efforts, a proposed physical exam for marriage lacks support, a compulsory schooling bill gains favor, and a state budget of 831000 is favorably reported. Assemblyman Cady draws attention, a woman factory inspector faces broad support, woman suffrage fails in the senate, and an interracial marriage prohibition draws sharp opposition from Milwaukee’s colored population. The apportionment of assembly districts proceeds with county shifts, while a divorced marriage ban proposal keeps matrimonial tensions alive.
