Wreck Near Auburndale Claims Two Trainmen

A freight collision about one mile west of Auburndale on Monday morning killed fireman Charles Kelley and brakeman H. McCarty, both from Fond du Lac, and injured others including Engineer Moran. The two Wisconsin Central engines Nos 127 and 230 collided in dense fog, telescoping the smaller engine inside the larger. Details of fault remain disputed as authorities review orders and deliveries. The wreck disrupted freight traffic, damaged twelve cars, and drew a large crowd while crews cleared the line by Tuesday.

The Tables Were Turned in Marshfield Case

The case of the state of Wisconsin against B Cohen of Marshfield occupied Justice Park’s forenoon session. Cohen, charged by Harry Fischer with stealing a harness from Clark Street, claimed he traded an old harness for a new one and was to pay Fischer an amount. The noon adjournment paused proceedings to today to secure witnesses from Marshfield. District Attorney Dabl led for the state and P A Williams for the defense. Reports show defense witnesses and a claim that the district attorney ordered Cohen released with costs taxed against Fischer. Fischer’s zeal led to his arrest for perjury as the state sought action on the matter.
