The local machine violated a nonpartisan agreement by filing nomination papers in wards two three and four for reformers. This action forces an expense for a primary and higher taxes while betraying citizen candidates and weakening independent voter support for the reform movement.
At the regular city council meeting held Tuesday evening, bills for salaries and supplies were approved. A petition from John Brackendorf sought transferring his saloon license from 107 East Third Street to 222 South Central Avenue, which Amos S Fowler opposed citing a $300 payment. The petition was granted after debate. City Order No. 1074 from 1896 for 1.25 was credited to balance the general fund. The board of public works could not estimate real estate damages and benefits for Central avenue improvements without a civil engineer. The clerk will consult Engineer FLOM McCullough for estimates and draw a $1655.38 order to Marshfield Water Electric Light & Power Co. for labor, supplies, and power.
The fifth competition shoot of Company A drew a strong turnout at the armory on Monday. Lieut. McLees and Corp. Speerbecker tied at 42, Corp. Lee scored 40, Priv. Therolf 39, and Priv. Rapp 38.
Miss Edna Budde of Bellevue and Theodore Steinmetz of Marshfield were married Tuesday morning at St John’s Catholic Church by Rev Fr John Eisen. Attendants were Miss Thekla Backtaus and Frank Lucas. A wedding breakfast followed at the Steinmetz home and the couple left by southbound Wisconsin Central train for Bellevue on an extended wedding tour. The bride is a popular visitor in Marshfield. the groom is a longtime resident and musician. They will reside at 126 N Central Ave after May 1.
Oscar Lange, a jovial local artist, planned a ten chair barber shop and fresh wealth. A Saturday phone call from Tufts promising thousands led him to fear a bank mix up when the message turned out to be for the bank, not Lange. He remains at his corner shop at Central and East Third.
Frank Mahara presents a big minstrel show with six novelty acts plus comedians singers and dancers led by Skinner Harris. A parade at noon precedes the performance on March 16 with seats priced 25 35 and 50 cents and tickets available at Sexton's for a packed city venue.
Secretary George H. Welton said the Central Wisconsin State Fair association fixed September 18 to 21 for this year's fair. Officials expect good attendance and emphasis on farm attractions with reduced costs and improved grounds. Races last year were the highlight of the circuit.

Berlin Princeton and Western railroad company filed organization papers to build a 77 mile line from Berlin to Necedah. Adams County, previously without a railroad, has long attracted attempts but lacked resident support. The St Paul road is believed to back the new venture.
D M Glassner and Co will close their store for two days to cover stock for a second time and cut prices. Patrons were astonished by first sale prices and a still greater surprise awaits buyers at the second sale starting Saturday morning March 48. A mammoth remaining stock will be cleared before the new department store opens with its full stock and equipment. The greatest bargains ever offered in Marshfield await shoppers.
