Wisconsin communities urge patriotic support for War Savings stamps with June 26 pledge day. Marshfield aims to meet its quota, urging citizens to invest in baby bonds and lend Uncle Sam money, noting price increases in June and a drive to enroll every man woman and child.
The Farmers Economy store on South Central avenue changed hands Monday. L. J. Clark and Guy Cook, identified as Young business men, purchased the stock from Weber Bros. The cash-based operation continues, with plans to develop the shop into a leading downtown business spot tied to Blodgett wholesale connections. A. J. Clark currently runs the store as the new owners arrange for Mr. Cook to join once Blodgett assigns a replacement.
One of the Auburndale automobile accidents last week claimed Fred Braunsky. He died at the hospital Saturday from a broken neck suffered Wednesday when a car returning from Blenker to register for military service swerved, struck a bridge, and plunged down an embankment. Arnold Krings drove but was uninjured. Braunsky’s funeral occurred Tuesday in Auburndale.
Mrs H H Milbee announces free weighings for children under six by ward starting Monday June 17 at Eagles club rooms with two daily sessions 2 to 5 and 7 to 8. Free transport by County Council of Defense to St Johns parochial and Grant schools. Ward by ward locations plus health staff and exclusion for contagious cases.
The State Council of Defense designates Sunday June 16 as Bean Sunday and designs a two week campaign to boost Wisconsin navy bean consumption. Wisconsin grows about 1,600,000 pounds of navy beans from 1917 farm crops. Grocers urged to sell only Wisconsin beans during the period to support state production and reduce on hand supplies.

The casualty list records Private James Leslie Canon of Daney as died of disease. He registered for the draft in Green Valley, drew Order No. 1934, and later went to Camp Charlotte, North Carolina on March 11, 1918 for special service. He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. James Canon and three sisters.

John J. Bochanyin was found guilty of second degree manslaughter for the fatal shooting of Helmuth Ewan during a fight at the Jerkwater saloon in Holton on April 21. He was sentenced to two consecutive five year terms in the state prison at Waupun, with the judge noting justification but denying life-ending necessity.
A band concert is set for Columbia Park tonight weather permitting. Last Thursday evening the new band performed to a good turnout and many attendees enjoyed the program. The planned program includes March King selections from Going Up by Hirsch, Mountain Maiden’s Dream by Labitzky, Lucrezia Borgia by Tobani, Sailing on the Heart by Kohl, Rosemary Serenade by King, Tobani selections, and the Star Spangled Banner.

LaCrosse was chosen as next year’s session site for the first week of June.
Washington reports indicate German secret police may land spies by submarine off the New England coast as part of a desperate effort to insert agents. The Adler theater promotes The Spy show for Monday and Tuesday June 17 and 18.
