Bright Memorial Day Observance and Elks Beat Foresters
Memorial Day events opened with clear skies despite muddy streets as veterans and the band led a procession from the old Central avenue school to the cemetery where Rev. A B Soule gave a strong address and the flag was raised from half mast. In the afternoon at the fair grounds the Elks defeated the Foresters 6 to 4 after a tense game with four runs in the fourth inning and subsequent shutouts in the later frames. Fred R. Pollard, formerly manager at Upham Retail Lumber in Marshfield, resigned to enter wholesale lumber and will establish a retail yard here, holding a city contract for the current year and boasting large stocks of pine, hardwood, and hemlock.
