Old Glory Rises Over Marshfield After City Fire
The 1887 Marshfield fire left 100 businesses and 40 homes in ruins. Ex Gov W H Upham raised Old Glory at six in the morning on June 28, sparking renewed hope, rebuilding, and civic unity that transformed despair into progress and culture. The town's rescue efforts, aided by local women led by Mr Upham, restored schools and support for families as the community rebuilt and honors Upham twenty three years later.
