Donors List Published On Marshfield Fire Anniversary

The 23rd anniversary of Marshfield’s 1887 great fire recalls a strong public response. Cash gifts totaling about 11 000 supported the homeless, with provisions and shelter rushed to the scene as aid from individuals and organizations statewide arrived.

Price and minister bait cry in river tale a church fundraiser

Narrative recalls Bill Price offering a hundred dollars to the church if rainfall would float logs from Black River to Keokuk. Rain comes, logs scatter, Price lowers donation to fifty dollars. Also notes Manager Brackendorf plans two days of baseball next Sunday and Monday with Greenwood and Stevens Point to play, highlighting local teams and venue appeal.

Eagles Train Heads to Marshfield Meet Night Run

The Eagle excursion train of five coaches departs at midnight for Sheboygan with Badger Aerie No 624 aiding Marshfield’s 1911 meeting. Members and supporters will don Marshfield 1911 tags on the streets and on the train, which leaves Sheboygan at 11 p.m. for a full day and evening in the city.

Attractions For The Fair August Program Announced

Secretary John Seubert closes a contract with the Twentieth Century Amusement company for a string of shows at the fair from August 23 to 26. They will bring a Ferris wheel Merry-go-round snake show electric shows and Panhandle features. The premium list will be issued as soon as the speed events and other features are confirmed. Advertising will be boomed to boost attendance. Prospects for a big fair are excellent and with proper promotion the 1910 fair could be the banner meeting of the association's history.

Death of a Pioneer Mrs Margaret Kohl

Mrs Margaret Kohl widow of Joseph Kohl died at 70 after living in Marshfield since 1880. Funeral at 9:00 am Thursday from St John Catholic Church. Survived by daughters Anna Steuber Mary Kohl. sons Carl John Lawrence Fred Jos Frank Kohl. sister and ten grandchildren. Born in Germany came to America at 16.

Qualified as Sharpshooters at Camp Douglas drill

Company A trained at the range north of town last Saturday night and Sunday. Four drill sessions prepared militiamen for a week at Camp Douglas beginning July 9. Sunday’s competition qualified sharpshooters: First Sergeant A Zecka, Sergeant W Mueller, Sergeant E Therolf, Corporal Henry Mueller, Corporal Alvin Hansen, Private Wm Mittlesfeidt. Next Sunday a hard day’s work will be done on the range.

Norton Suffering from Diphtheria in Richfield

W J Norton and wife, once Richfield residents now away on missionary work, faced diphtheria. A.J. Norton recovered from an earlier attack, while Mrs Norton fell ill last week and the home was quarantined by the local health officer. She remains bedridden but is improving on the road to recovery.
