Well Water Analyzed Shows Past Pollution Evidence
State experts found suspicious traces of pollution in the Schoenhofen well water on Cherry street linked to typhoid cases. Chemical results report high chlorine and nitrate implying past surface water intrusion. bacteriological tests show fecal-type organisms suggesting contamination. The well appears deep and well-constructed, but rusted gas-pipe joints may have allowed entry of pollutants. Additionally, R. Connor Lumber Co. has begun a two story brick veneer office at Central Avenue and Fourth Street.

Fourth of July Races at fair grounds attract crowd
The racing matinee and old fashioned Fourth of July celebration at the fair grounds Saturday will draw a good crowd with a strong program. Harness races promise lively contests, with prizes for foot, sack and bicycle events to fill delays. A horse show featuring imported stallions from LaFayette Importing Co. adds to the appeal, while Ed Kennedy of Auburndale showcases two hundred Shropshire sheep and a broad stock of horses and cattle. Kennedy’s bell method protects sheep from dogs and wolves, a simple, effective system that has kept his flock safe for three years.
