At a meeting in Wausau representatives from Marathon Lincoln and Langlade counties created a new racing circuit to boost purses and attract top racers for fall meets J W Cotter was elected president and L K Wright secretary Dates announced include Wausau Sept 6 9 Merrill Sept 15 16 Antigo Sept 19 22 and Marshfield Sept 26 29 The circuit mirrors last year with three stake races and three purse races Purses are set at 800 for the Wausau stake races and 200 for purse events The local stockholders meeting is moved to the assembly room City Hall next Tuesday at 1 50 PM The Farmers Institute Bulletin No 7 will be distributed to attending farmers Miss Hattie Pickett Marshfield and District Attorney Theo W Brazeau Grand Rapids announce their engagement for early next summer

Water main bursts cut city water for days
A deep frost heaved a hydrant at Central avenue and Seventh street breaking a four inch connection to the mains. The leak ran through the storm sewer, forcing a two day shutdown of the water system and disrupting railway and other heavy users. The plant's men labored through Friday night and weekend to restore service, with the hospital among shut down facilities.

Tragic mill accident claims life of Henry Jacobson at Grand Rapids
Henry Jacobson 26, an employee of Consolidated Water Power & Paper, fell into a three foot deep boiling vat at the Grand Rapids mill on Tuesday. He was severely scalded and died Wednesday night after attempts to relieve his agony. He lived in New Rome Wisconsin and leaves a mother and eleven brothers. Architect J. C. Jacobson, his brother, is building the mill and he was to be married in two weeks. Funeral arrangements are set with Rev. A. J. Anderson to officiate. The report notes the safety emphasis of the Chicago and North Western Railway's block signal system now in use across much of its Ashland Division to prevent collisions, reflecting the era's emphasis on safety over speed.

Pirates of Penzance Delights Local Audience at Opera House
The local talent production of the comic opera Pirates of Penzance at the Opera House drew a large audience and strong applause. Lead roles were well cast with Mesdames Below Bly and Misses MacFarlane Hinman Forrest delivering graceful solos. Mr Mason Voelker Finney Dale and Smith faultless as the male leads. The Second Regiment orchestra and pianists provided accompaniments under Dale's direction and the show will be repeated tonight after a strong advance sale.

Train Crash at Oshkosh Injures Officials and Porter
Wisconsin Central passenger train No2 collided with a following freight near Oshkosh on Sunday afternoon. Porter F G Morris suffered leg injuries, Asst Supt W C Booth lightly hurt, and several passengers shaken. Train was delayed by a blocked crossing on a curve, freight engineer unable to stop in time.
