Marshfield Library Gains in Popularity and Checks Records

The Marshfield Free Library reports 1410 borrowers registered to date with 1350 cards outstanding after 80 left the city. A banner day saw 133 books issued in a single day, surpassing previous records. A new Remington typewriter, donated by W. D. Connor, enhances operations along with oak shelving. Ellinwood leads a strong foreign-language collection, notably 48 German titles issued last week. The reading room remains well stocked with periodicals and access to the full collection.

Cady Named Judiciary Chairman After Leader Assembly Bid

Hon Frank A Cady of Wood county now at Grand Rapids has been appointed chair of the judiciary committee in the state assembly, a role second only to the speaker. He was considered for both the tax assessment and railway committees but chose judiciary, promising enhanced prestige for future legislatures. Smalley and Gilman receive chairs on the former judiciary lineup and the other committee respectively.

Spooner to be re elected without dissent in joint session

Senator John C Spooner will attend the January 28 joint session to be reelected to the U S Senate without any Republican opposition. The Wisconsin GOP factions have reportedly settled key differences, prioritizing party success over internal domination in a move seen as unifying for the party.

Punished for Jumping Bobs in Wausau

Three young boys in Wausau were fined $2 and costs or ten days in jail for jumping on sleighs and cutters. Their parents paid the fines, sparing them jail time. The report suggests arrests could deter this dangerous activity and prevent injuries from runovers.

Sale of Shorthorns at Marshfield Round-Up Institute

Negotiations are under way for a major Shorthorn stock sale in Marshfield during the round-up closing institute on March 17 18 and 15. Dr H A Lathrop C E Blodgett William Scott Duncan Brothers and Benson Anderton will conduct the sale of fifty to fifty five head from their registered herds. The event aims to boost Marshfield as a stock center and may spawn annual sales, with Arion Orchestra engagement for a February 11 dance at the Armory and tickets at two dollars per couple. George Reichert sells pure extracted honey from 150 bee colonies, aided by L B Zaha of Greenwood.

The Cut of Lumber in Northwest 1902

A Mississippi Valley Lumberman special edition lists 1902 white pine and hemlock cuts by Wisconsin firms. Marshfield crews lead with 500,000 ft white pine and 32,000,000 ft hemlock. other companies include McMillan, Connor, Hafer and Ealshed, Linster and Welter, Milladore, Loyal, Rozellville, Ladysmith, and Doud Sons & Co with varying pine and hemlock totals.

Noted Marshfield banker visits Chilton friends

R L Kraus of Chilton and L Kears of Marshfield spent a few days in Chilton early this week visiting Mrs C M Hugo and relatives. Kraus, a Marshfield resident for twenty years, was once part of Vollmer Kraus and later became vice president of the American National Bank. He also has interests in a Stevens Point bank and timber lands. The Times office records a pleasant call.

Fire department extinguishes chimney blaze at Brown residence

The fire department responded to a chimney fire at Rev. Joseph Brown’s home at Fourth and Chestnut streets. Crews arrived quickly, covered four blocks, laid a one block long line, and had water on within ninety seconds of the alarm on Wednesday at 11 13 AM.
