Wisconsin Central to match passenger rate cuts in state

W A Bradford JI president of the Wisconsin Central announces the railway will voluntarily lower passenger fares to 2 cents per mile. The move follows Wisconsin Railroad Commission actions affecting other lines and sets a pledge to meet any required reductions despite potential revenue loss.

Fortnightly Musical Club Delights Members in Colonial Dress

Members of the Fortnightly Musical Club enjoyed a Washington’s Birthday meeting with all in Colonial costumes. The luncheon featured red white and blue decorations and a group photo. New Mill at Park Falls Destroyed by Flames

Roddis Lumber and Veneer Co suffered a second fire destroying its Park Falls sawmill on Monday night. The veneer plant, damaged Sunday night, remains uninsured for office and planing facilities, with the sawmill loss about 30000 dollars and 20000 dollars insured. Company plans immediate rebuilding and aims to be operating in two months. Location of the veneer factory undecided.

Death of Martin Arndt Pioneer of This Section

Martin Arndt, noted pioneer, died Saturday at an advanced age after a stroke while driving on Central Avenue near Thomas Mersch’s place. He died in the afternoon after medical efforts. funeral held Tuesday at Immanuel’s Lutheran Church. Survived by four sons, one daughter, and a prominent Arndt family including Rev Albert Arndt in Doylestown and Carl, Herman, Emil, and Mrs Herman Stracher.

Dancy Drainage District Set After Judge Fowler Decision

Judge Fowler of Portage confirms the supplement al report of the commissioners as amended, establishing the Dancy Drainage District after two circuit court trials and an appeal to the supreme court. The district will cover about 33,000 acres across Eau Pleine Portage county and two Marathon towns with 25,000 acres assessed for improvements at $5.80 per acre, with work expected to begin this summer.

Injured carpenter Chas. Hamel faces possible fatal wounds

Chas Hamel and Peter Messner operate a Fourth street carpenter shop when Hamel is injured by the main belt of a gasoline engine. He suffers a fractured skull, burns to the face and neck, burns on the forehead, both bones broken near the elbow, and other bruises. Hamel was rushed home after emergency care and showed some improvement later. An assistant named Esser aided him, preventing a worse outcome as Hamel lay on a hot pipe.

Church Riot at St Pauls Evangelical in Wansan

At St Pauls Evangelical, Wansan, a Thursday night church dispute escalated into a riot as faction led by Rev Frederick Schaer sought the dismissal of teacher Hans Herfurth. Schaer and others injured. two participants arrested for hearing in Wausau March 5.
