Debaters of High School Beat WAUSAU and Rapids

The HIGHS debaters defeated Wausau and the Rapids in a double victory. Coach Parmenter led two strong teams with many inexperienced members turning in solid showings. Richard Connor led scoring at The Rapids and the group prepared for further contests against state schools.

Auto Club Session Postponed To 29th In Marshfield

Odd Fellows Session at Point Sees Marshfield Pick for Next Meet

The district Odd Fellows held a trial convention in Stevens Point on Tuesday. Marshfield was chosen as the site for the next district gathering. Afternoon reports covered lodges and instruction while a banquet followed. Evening addresses featured officers and members. C S Sheerin and L B Colgin led the program. General Holway Visits Wisconsin National Guard Company A

Adjt. Gen. Orlando Holway of La Crosse visited the city last Tuesday evening to attend Company A’s weekly drill and offer pointers on the war game. He praised the unit for its rank and steady work and discussed preparedness plans with frankness. He predicted the National Guard would become the main reliance of the country and be expanded to attract all classes of young men. He also believed the pay bill then before Congress would gain support to pass.

Jonn Kidd a Stanley ballplayer known in local baseball circles is charged with embezzlement by Eau Claire officers. The amount alleged is 1500 dollars. He was arrested in Saint Paul after fleeing Stanley six weeks earlier and was sent to Minneapolis for detention.

Boy Killed Trying to Flip Freight Near Colby

Charmee Henkel a fifteen year old Colby youth died after being struck by a northbound freight near the Son line water tank. Four companions, all from Colby, rode the train before the tragedy and the accident prompted a citywide vigil as locals warned against attempting dangerous train rides.
