Mrs W E Upham, president of the state W C T U, delivers the La Crosse convention address praising rising prohibition sentiment, noting many states enacting licensure limits, and urging continued temperance education and advocacy through W C T U departments and allied movements. The piece cites international views, church trends, and the push for school hygiene and temperance instruction.
The U C T of America Railway City Council No 189 will host its first annual ball at the armory on Friday evening January 12. C G Kempf F E Tice and R G Nuss lead arrangements with reception decorations supper and floor committees named. Invitations imitate a mileage book featuring dances and concert numbers.
Elle L. Coon was granted a divorce from Charles A. Coon on grounds of desertion and non-support by Judge Halsey, by default. The couple wed in Grand Rapids, Wis. on April 24, 1878, with two children living. Coon, once a Wisconsin political figure and railroad official, is now unemployed in Madison while Mrs. Coon runs a Milwaukee boarding house. Also noted is a Detroit wedding of Miss Ins Belle Dow and Sam E. Fike at Cedarhurst, with relatives present and the couple planning to settle in Detroit after a visit to Park Falls.
The Marshfield high school team and the Stevens Point normal team meet at the armory on Friday evening January 5 in a hard fought high school basketball game. The normal team is among the best in the state and Marshfield aims to win the championship through skill and gameness.
