Acquittal in arson case ends man’s bid for fraud charges
Clayton Fuller was acquitted by Judge Dick in Waukesha after the fire that destroyed his home, ruled not prosecutable since the insurance policies were void when the house had been vacant for over ten days. Local witnesses testified for the defense. A knitting factory near Marshfield burned Friday night causing $1,800 in losses, with five girls employed there and plans to rebuild. William Shafer, a shoe shop owner, faced a separate adultery charge from a 15 year old employee and was bound over to circuit court after a preliminary hearing.

In San Francisco Mechanics Pavilion the thirteenth round decided the match. Robert Fitzsimmons, once world champion from Corbett, collapsed after the gong. Philadelphia Jack O'Brien was awarded the bout by Referee Graney as Fitzsimmons could not rise. Despite hard exchanges Fitzsimmons suffered a stomach blow and head cuts before succumbing to the weariness. He later left the ring aided by seconds and a doctor was summoned.
