Rural Mail Route Plans Held In Abeyance For City
New rural routes out of the city remain delayed by postal authorities. One route covering McMillan and Rozellville has been under consideration for about a year without layout or inspection. A second route to Richfield would trim the Klondike road segment and shorten existing mileage. Officials expect both routes to be operational within a year as funding and staffing permit. Present Rural Route No 1 spans nearly thirty miles, prompting talks of further trimming. Proposals on carrier salaries include a standard 22.5 mile route at 720 dollars annually and a scale for longer or shorter routes, plus possible congressional support to reimburse horse upkeep.
