Gorr Sentenced to Three Years for Assault on Officer

William Gorr pleaded guilty to assault with intent to do great bodily harm. Circuit Judge B K Park ordered three years at hard labor in the Green Bay state reformatory. Sheriff C W Bluett took him to the prison. Gorr is said to be from Stratford. Officer Louis Thompson, though injured, has resumed duty. President Wilson sent a sharp note on the British blacklist, signaling a demand for blockade changes.

Little Girl Struck by Auto in Watertown Accident

Lucy Scherr, daughter of Mr and Mrs Peter Scherr of the north side Watertown, was seriously injured Saturday morning when struck by an auto owned and driven by Charles Paszek of Edgar. Witnesses said she started to run across the road and the driver could not stop in time. The child sustained facial wounds and a broken jaw, treated at a local office and hospital. jaw was wired with silver wire and doctors expect no permanent injury.

Farmers invited to program at Varsity Farm

Residents of three counties invited to bring families, eat lunch, and tour the University experiment station in Marshfield next Sunday August 11 for the fourth annual Farmers Day. Focus is on drainage with other topics like food preservation soil management and crop care. A drainage expert from Wan yv will speak and a field tour follows a noon picnic. About 500 acres of tile drains have been laid for the day’s inspections as inquiries mount about drainage. Profs Musbach will start events at 10 am.

Veefkind Woman Helen Giley Dies at 44

Mrs Helen Giley of Veefkind wife of a well known local farmer died at the hospital Tuesday morning after a long illness with diabetes She was forty four years old The bereaved husband sent the body to Spencer by evening train and then by team to their home where the funeral will be held later.
