A fragmentary poem recalls autumn hush and vanished birds as morning wakes. The speaker laments lack of song, describes withering summer and winter’s approach, and portrays a lone figure counting the dead while the world seems a faded memory.
In his old age Lafayette visited the United States, greeted with unparalleled triumphs from New York to Boston. Thousands honored him, saluting as he toured through Albany, Philadelphia, and Mount Vernon. He visited Washington’s tomb, wept, and led ceremonies at Bunker Hill. A large payment came later, but his reward was the nation’s gratitude and shared reverence as the last surviving major general.
Fragmentary OCR narrative describes a mock trial of a Yankee target on Bosius Common. Characters Omarnas Percy and Jonathan react with amusement as a soldier offers a gun and a guinea for a hit heart, while misread dialogue unfolds with confusion and laughter.

In a reprint from the New York Evening Post, a letter by James Pitus, Esq. argues against conquest or purchase of new territory to plant slavery. The author cites the Wilmot Proviso, denounces occupying lands with slavery, and urges freedom as the guiding principle. The Albany Journal notes the late statesman’s ideals echo to inform anti slavery sentiment.
A Paris couple seeking separation before a Paris arrondissement judge faced a bizarre ruling. Each parent claimed custody of three children, and after discussing two, the judge ordered them to have another child, delaying the final decision for nine months. Two years later the magistrate inquired about the separation.
