Tales of the TK Soldiers Who Never Moved a Post

Civil War anecdotes recount soldiers who died at their posts from instant gunfire and other perils. Captain Boone recalls Dutton’s Hill near Pulaski, where three men under a log were killed by a single shot as they prepared to fire. Private Midnite adds sentinel frost deaths and a soldier frozen to the ground. A street incident shows a burglar felled by a wife with a chair. The piece also follows a 24 year search for John W. Davis’s forgotten bankbook and heirs connected to a Wisconsin bank, with Davis later linked to the Fourteenth Infantry and a European-leaning tale of debt and restitution.
