At the county fair nine starters competed in a three minute trotting and pacing race. Bayard Gift placed third but showed leader like speed with a best heat time of 4.44. Chief Witken finished second. Bua Gabio was fourth. Mr. Cox, new to driving this season, praised Bayard Gift for steadiness and power, while pilot W. officiated.
Local boards recommend the Brush electric system for Marshall. The council passed the measure Monday after a mostly unanimous vote. Contract terms show Brush Co. at 14,000 dollars versus Fisher’s 12,400, with Brush offering greater scope for investment. debates centered on lights and power capacity as the city aims for a reliable, expanded electric service.

He moved to Ohio, studied at the University of Michigan, practiced law in Ohio and Michigan before settling in Battle Creek. He served as county superintendent of schools and then prosecutor, later judge on the Michigan circuit court, with reelections through 1876 851 and 1867. The article also lists party nominates and local officials at a Republican convention in Battle Creek including congressman candidate and county officers.
