The Union warship Wachusett attacked the Florida near Bahia with Capt. Collins in pursuit. The Florida surrendered after a momentary standoff as Wachusett fired, prisoners taken including Cayt Morvin. The U S S Wachusett captured the Florida in the Bay of San Salvador Brazil on October 4th. The ship towed prize officers and crew were taken aboard with minimal resistance. The capture followed a firefight near the barque and barge battles, with the Wachusett blocking pursuit. The Florida’s officers were American Confederate veterans. most crew were Italians and others. The Florida papers and dispatches were seized by Lieutenant Williams.
