A Patchwork Tale of Love and Worries in Rural Hollow
A farmer Eben Hayes faces debts as wheat drops and Fred Faxon, a hopeful lawyer, courts his daughter Bessie. The pair’s secret plans spark tension until a city legal career and a hidden inheritance reveal truth, uniting lovers. An unrelated salon anecdote and a mix of sketches follow, including a wry frontier duel anecdote and tidbits on aristo engagements.
