The American Cyclopaedia Promotion and Local Council
An 19th century promotion extols the American Cyclopaedia by D Appleton & Co offering two volumes down and the rest paid over two years. The piece notes wide use in colleges and homes and cites testimonials from clergy and scholars. It then shifts to city affairs about sidewalks nuisance abatement on Jefferson Street, liquor bonds, city finances, and street paving proposals as the council debates costs, wages, and charter changes.
