The Farmer's Ode and the Pioneer of Ohio Story
A historic poem praises farmers before a narrative of Louis Miranda a brutal pioneer who builds a hut on the Ohio River bank with Josephine and Mirabeau amid a perilous frontier trek. Miranda abducts and murders Josephine’s suitor, is killed after a violent struggle, and his victim is saved by a French officer and travelers aided by a loyal dog Volta. The tale ends with Miranda’s corpse found on a rock known to travelers as the Murderer’s Rock and the riverbank marked by the killer’s demise.
