New Orleans to Texas tour with Louisiana sugar and Texas railroads
The article follows a Michigan Press association journey through New Orleans and the Crescent City’s French quarter, noting modernization and climate, then moves north along the Mississippi and into Louisiana sugar country. It describes Acadian and Creole life, Alabama and Iowa colonists, sugar cultivation, and the central factory system. The trip continues through Texas, Houston’s role as a cotton market, and the vast Texas landscape, rail network, and the Sunset Route. It concludes with praise for the Sunset Limited’s luxury and thanks to railroad officials, while contrasting with cold weather cautions and a medical plug.
