Mackin and Gallagher Granted Stay of Execution in Chicago Case

In Chicago Judge Gresham granted a writ of error in the Mackin Gallagher election conspiracy case, staying the sentence. Death of Hon Jacob Thompson Former Interior Secretary

Hon Jacob Thompson of Apious Tenn dies aged seventy five yesterday at his home. He served as Secretary of the Interior from 1857 to 1861 under President Buchanan and was long active in politics.
