Mesmerism and tax debates in Michigan legislature 1845
In Detroit and Lansing reports the Detroit Advertiser recounts a Mesmerism case testifying to Dr Bass’s sleep therapy and a long Philadelphia style publicized experiment, followed by a detailed Michigan Senate and House session. The debates center on taxing churches and charitable societies versus exemptions, plus railroad and canal appropriations and school funding.
