Transportation Exhibit at Columbian Exposition Reveals Steam Era Evolution
A vast display in the Transportation Building chronicles the history of movement from birch bark canoes to modern locomotives and ocean liners. It features 64 locomotives, freight cars, and hundreds of models from American and British builders, plus marine crafts from Alaska to Australia and a large array of wheeled vehicles. The Baltimore and Ohio and other railways showcase historic engines like the Pioneer and General, while ships from Cunard and the Thames Iron Works illustrate ironclad progress and naval history.
