A man in gray clothes, about 18 or 19, attempted to burglarize Postmaster Arthur on Division Street Wednesday night. Mrs. Arthur awoke as a dark lantern shone in her face. the intruder fled and was later confronted by Van Lepper. The sheriff seeks the youth who lingered in the neighborhood until early morning.
A fragment describes Marshall men gathering jugs and traveling with wives toward the countryside. Near Marengo the parties allegedly met as tension rose. The wives claim stones were thrown and a horse bolted, while the men deny intoxication or loss of control.
In Detroit, a veteran criminal known as Doc Ryan, alias multiple names, received seven more years after a trial in the circuit court. He had a long record including burglaries in Detroit, Joliet, Kingston, and Toronto, with a notorious pattern of theft and planning. The judge praised the trial fairness, but noted the offender’s extensive prison time across many jurisdictions. He will report to Jackson to serve the sentence.
The Michigan Telephone company plans long distance links from Detroit to Kalamazoo and Jackson within two weeks, with Marshall by July first. The project uses extensive copper wire and 5,400 poles, 12,400 cross arms, 124,000 pins, and 123,000 insulators totaling 315,850 pounds of copper. An exchange list may debut by July 1 to show who subscribers may talk to.
The uprising meeting of the Presbyterian church and society met in the lecture room Tuesday evening to elect nine trustees for one two and three year terms. For one year the trustees chosen were Irving Udell Manline Perrett and John Gausa. For two year terms were selected W T Phelps Bert Gardanier and J T Mack. The remaining terms to be filled by Bergernaai and Joseph.
A late night escape attempt by John Bligh is described with sheriff and deputies monitoring the plan. Bligh allegedly used a wooden wrench to disable a lock and escape a cage, prompting a brief chase and capture. John Bligh pleaded guilty to assault. his associate may face charges. Other courtroom items include pollution case, liquor information motion, and larceny sentencing. Professor T F Richards gave a lecture on wireless telegraphy and X rays to raise funds, with local scenes shown by Geo Southworth photos. The Common Council approved cement sidewalks and bids for street work.

Mrs Frank Conklin and son George of Albion visit at the sister Mrs Gerome Bond. Mrs O B Rowley returns from a three week visit with friends in Detroit Ionia and Lansing. Mr and Mrs R A Powell of St Paul Minn are in the city visiting Mr Powells parents Mr and Mrs W A Powell.
The Presbytery of Lansing will meet next Monday at 2 p m at the Presbyterian church. At Grace church Universalist Rev J M Getchell will preach a sermon on Salutations of the Heart. Ads push hardware sales, farm rights, and summer tourist tickets with several addresses and names.
