Future of Paraguay hinges on European settlers and capital
Theodore Child argues in Harper's that Paraguay’s vast natural resources invite rapid development by European colonists and English capital. He claims Argentines and Brazilians exterminated natives, clearing ground for new energy, and asserts indigenous groups will not work without despotic or paternal systems, citing Jesuit-era missions and Guarani reluctance to labor.
