Southern congressmen debate address reading and amendments
In a Southern Congress gathering Mr Venable of North Carolina read an address drawn to Mr Calhoun with Mr Bayly assisting. Speeches by Clay, Stephens, Tompkins, Moreland, Underwood and Gentry supported the address. Opposing voices by Berrien and McKay urged modification while the committee recommitted the matter without instructions. the committee report is due next Monday as several members were excused from further duty.
