A long column of brief notices reports Isham Scott’s execution at Paris Texas for murder and robbery of Joseph Speers, jail escapes, ship arrivals, deaths of notable figures, mining disputes, a bridge collapse, floods, and various court and financial actions across numerous states. Names include Speers Brown Napton Baldwin and many cities.
A blaze at the Newhall House in Milwaukee yesterday morning caused nearly 100 deaths or injuries as guests attempted to escape, in what is described as the largest hotel fire loss in the nation. The building, insured for 125000, faced losses up to 500000. Among the departed were members of the Minnie Palmer company. Mrs John Gilbert was killed, with Mr. Gilbert having married Tuesday in Chicago. Authorities blame a fire trap building and note insurers had refused higher risk coverage.

Mrs David Walkingshaw receives temperance petition for circulation. Sarah Hamilton repeats 60 verses at Sunday School and wins a prize. Ladies Aid aids the worthy poor. Mrs George N Ellis leaves for Alabama to join her husband Prof Ellis. her father E H Brown travels to Cincinnati. Red Ribbon Club elects Elmer Ford president and Jennie Otto secretary after two years in office.

Hound portion of Sadiman to Grand Trunk shops due, ground broken Tuesday for railroad fare project, Phoebe Facey elderly Gast Hotel arrival to bring Battle Creek’s second supply, Bohemia association mentioned.
Battle Creek reports growth as the Good Templars relocate to bigger quarters. The column notes a German band for a G A R street parade on the 18th, hogs expand at the stockyards with 320 received in one day, and local fortunes like the Grange store secretary shift from H B Hoagland to H Manchester.

Frances Shaver and Minnie visited Albion en route to Wisconsin for Frances health, marriage followed, she died recently after prolonged illness. husband remained by her side until death. Remains sent to New York.
