William Windom, United States Secretary of the Treasury, collapsed and died at Delmonica’s in New York after delivering a toast at the New York Board of Trade and Transportation annual dinner. He spoke on Prosperity Dependent Upon its Instruments of Commerce, grew faint, and died despite electric shocks. Windom, born May 10 1827 in Belmont County Ohio, had a long political career including senator and Treasury secretary.
