Skillful Scoundrels Loot Jewelry Store After Night Break-In
Burglars entered A H Cathcart's jewelry store between two and three o'clock Friday night by forcing the transom lock and using a ladder. They opened the rear doors for accomplices, stole flatware, a gilt clock, two silver tea sets, boots and shoes, a cornet, an opticiana case, and various instruments while leaving higher shelves undisturbed. Seaman's drug store adjoining also entered with minor loot. Fire at Henry Ja Kataroo's home near Kalama zoo river caused blaze but limited damage, with losses around 2000 dollars and a 1600 dollar family item referenced.

Closing Day at Marshall Driving Park Racetrack
The Marshall Driving Park meeting closed on a sunny Friday with strong attendance and a brisk pool market. Jim Fisk led the top heats at 53, 53.5, and 52 seconds for the half, three quarters, and mile, while Money Mack and Jim Clay trailed. Prince Middleton won the 2:45 class and the final heat of the race, amid lively betting and a late driver complaint resolving in Robin’s disqualification. Dr Frank captured the free-for-all, with Minnie Warren and Lady Brownell also notable. The event drew praise for organization, mix of exhibitors, and plans for a larger circuit next year.
