Dash for Liberty Ends in Capture at Prison Yard
A prisoner named William Harter escaped briefly from a Calhoun county jail yesterday afternoon by using two improvised ladders to reach the yard. He seized a horse, rode toward the Centre house, but was intercepted by Warden Hateh and the keeper’s son, then recaptured in the Gelds and returned to custody. The incident occurred on a Sunday when the yard had no guard, with Harter previously sentenced to five years for horse theft.
