John B Park Killed In Freight Run Accident
John B Park a veteran C J M freight conductor was killed at Yorkville while attempting to catch the caboose front end. He was crushed and died hours after amputation of a crushed limb. He lived much of his career in railroading and resided at Marshall. His death prompted a large turnout of railroad men to Battle Creek to pay respects. The Statesman also notes a new Negro stage show Darkest America and a high school composite story That Mortgage. An inmate at the county jail caused a smoke incident using a mattress excelling.

A board of directors and advisory group were elected with H. M. Dearing and H. R. Stoepel among members. A five member working committee led by H. K. White Jr. was appointed to finalize festival details as Adams, head of the College Conservatory of Music, negotiates national performers and terms.
