Greeley homestead burned in Chappaqua fire
The former Horace Greeley home in Chappaqua New York built in 1851 was destroyed by fire. Miss Gabrielle Urveau owned it after Greeley’s death and was away at Pleasantville church with cousin Miss Cleveland while the house burned around 1 o clock. The fire forced occupants to flee with little salvage though neighbors saved the library marble bust of Greeley and the only picture of Mrs. Greeley. Jewelry valued at about 1000 dollars was lost and the total loss estimated near 10000 dollars.

Taxpayers and dubious ads in a street car crowd
A fragment shows a Hin city street car scene where a Taxpayers' Association member asks about taxes owed, claiming a client would have paid at least $12 if not for a sale. The text blends assorted 19th century ads for medicines and remedies, a Shorthand report about California punctuation refunds, and various boilerplate patent medicine pitches.
