Volunteers in Marshall prepare for the annual Historic Home Tour on September 7 and 8. The event highlights eight private homes dating 1843 to 1939, five museums, two commercial buildings, and other activities in the National Historic Landmark District. Free parking, bus transport, and $15 adult tickets with free entry for under 12.
Virginia Sweet, a 76 year old Marshall resident, exercises five pre dawn mornings weekly at Oaklawn Life Improvement Center with cardio and weights. She began after her weight stalled and has kept up for 40 years, citing mental and physical benefits. Moving to Florida soon, she plans to stay committed to fitness and to sharing healthy habits with family.
The council discussed spring trash pickup after ending it last spring due to cost and safety hazards. Preston outlined three options including restarting at about 16000 dollars, an annual 6000 dollar plan, or no pickup, but no action was taken. Kathy Tarr commended Preston while council members urged resident involvement in the Home Tour and construction-site guidance in Marshall.
A note urges drivers to exercise caution during the upcoming tour event this weekend. The message emphasizes careful driving and public safety while participants travel between locations.
