Marshall City Council approves a new sign ordinance replacing a 30 year old rule. The vote 5-1 with Matt Glaser voting no and Charles Hayes absent. The ordinance aims to be user friendly and applies to all sign types on one page. It takes effect Monday November 11 and reflects six years of Planning Commission work.
The Marshall City Council tackled personnel matters after addressing a sign ordinance. It reallocates city assets to equal funding percentages, eliminating the required minimum monthly contribution of 4344 starting in 2003 2004. They also approved a standard benefit program for 2 percent pension increases for 45 retirees effective January 1 2003 with a 2005 2006 cost of 6139. The panel backed a two year deal with the Calhoun County Road Commission and Board of Public Works for the Community Compost Center, budgeting 22323 for operation. county funds match. Reappointments to the Planning Commission of Joan Collins and Terry Lake were approved, with terms through November 1 2005. The next meeting is November 18 at 7 pm.
Local election results show Kelly Feneley defeating Mary Jo Byrne by 71 votes to capture the Ward 1 Marshall City Council seat as Matt Davis leaves to pursue a State Representative bid in the August primary. Feneley’s margin was slim and confirmed late Tuesday night.
In a surprising shift, members of the YES-2611 Library Millage board resign leaving the library system short handed. Officials confirm interim appointments will be reviewed to maintain governance and services.
Ron Ivey defeats Marshall businessman Byrd by more than two to one to continue serving Marshall’s 6th District. Ivey, director of public safety for the city of Marshall, will return to represent local constituents. Byrd is a Marshall businessman.
County voters rejected the proposed juvenile home and related services while Fredonia Township residents voted against road maintenance and improvements. Ballot totals show No 379 to Yes 221 in the measure.
