The Redskin Task Force delivered a 50 page study to the Marshall School Board with no recommendation. Superintendent Robert Currie outlined the report's methodology and urged the public to read it, noting availability in the District Library and on Schroer’s website. A special meeting on January 28 will allow public input.
Calhoun County law enforcement and partners conducted a county wide sting on December 17 to curb underage alcohol sales. Agencies included the Calhoun County Sheriff, Battle Creek Police, Marshall, Homer, Albion, Emmett, Springfield and public safety departments, with the Substance Abuse Council of Greater Battle Creek coordinating. Officials stressed multi agency checks, education and enforcement to reduce minors alcohol access and related crashes.
Collins Aikman plans to close its Marshall plant by year end affecting about 200 local workers. Trim work will shift to a Canton Ohio plant, a move the company calls unavoidable following a recent tax abatement granted to encourage jobs in Marshall where the firm has operated since 1975.
