A letter demanding 3100,000 was sent to barber Bruce Buckler in Oakland and prompted police attention. The ruse ended when investigators learned Archie Curtis, 16, authored the note after reading Diamond Dick stories, and Buckler moved his family to a Charleston hotel before peace was restored.

Tragic Freight Train Death Near Terre Haute
A 20 year old man named John D. Sculley was fatally struck near Terre Haute when he was caught under a west bound Big Four freight train last Thursday morning. His mangled body was identified the same evening by his mother after being found alive and taken to a hospital where he died.

Mrs Joe Watkins and her four year old daughter visited Louisville. The child developed membranous croup, fallen ill for four days and died Tuesday last.
