Gifford Case Draws Recruits From Calhoun Veteran Battalion
A late reunion of the Calhoun county Veteran Battalion passes a resolution questioning why Julius Gifford, late Colonel, remains in jail months after his arrest while his trial is delayed. The letter asks why he is urged to plead guilty for a six month or suspended sentence and why bondsmen cannot cover a $1000 bond, noting US constitutional rights to a speedy, impartial trial and urging prosecutors to proceed or explain the delay.
