Pierre July 12 Alfred J. Kittredge of Sioux Falls has been appointed United States senator to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Senator Kyle. The report notes Kittredge as a New Hampshire native with Yale and Connecticut bar credentials and long political ties, including service as a lieutenant and Republican official. On July 13 Philadelphia reports the battleship Maine will be launched July 27 at 11:00 am with no special ceremonies planned.

A Monday session in Justice Merrill’s court adjourned the exam of Mr and Mrs Van Voorhen of Fredonia to Monday July 29. Henry Artigo of South Mulberry Street fled after a cleanup, was found in Jack 4S Sunday evening, and today pleaded guilty to a disorderly conduct charge. The judge gave a light sentence amid references to correction for WO flags and mercury timing.
