Volney Hess, about 60, of Clarendon township, was struck by a westbound Michigan Central freight train a mile and a half west of Homer. An eastbound passenger train moved him to Homer where he died on board. Hess, who was very deaf, likely wandered onto the track. The coroner's jury adjourned to Thursday to secure freight crew testimony.
