Next homecoming set for the fourth Sunday in August 1928.
Charles Strohm of West Union took second in the hog calling contest at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield last week. First prize and the silver cup went to Guy Bender of Alexander, who claimed the cup for the second time.

The first annual Bulllard family reunion took place Saturday and Sunday in Marshall with 94 attendees. Officers elected at the Saturday business meeting included Ryland Capron as president and J C Bullard as vice president, plus A B Cooley as secretary and Arminta Wilson as treasurer.

William Williamson, Mrs. Lindley and children, Mrs. Shawler, Mrs. Clatfelter and son, Mrs. Cork and children, Mrs. Craig, Mrs. Weir, Mrs. Routh, Miss Anderson, Miss Shroyer, Miss Steward, Miss Wright, Miss Beulah Routh, and Rev and Mrs Wheeler of Robinson.
The Department of Commerce reports 82 529 marriages in Illinois in 1926 up from 79 964 in 1925 and 14 125 divorces up from 13 822. Annulments numbered 204 for 1926, first year collected. Population estimates show 7 203 000 in 1926 and 7 092 000 in 1925.
The Harry McDaniel grocery is remodeling to implement a wait-on-yourself plan. A desk will be placed at the store center with goods on low shelves along aisles. Walls and shelving will be painted white and cash-and-carry may be adopted.
Betsy Jane Holler of Springfield and granddaughter of Marshall residents won second prize in the Illinois state fair baby contest last week. The first prize went to a boy with 99 3-10 points. Betsy scored 99 points as about 1400 babies entered.
Coach Cecil W. Martin who taught at Marshall high school last year will coach at Gerstmeyer Technical school in Terre Haute this year. Miss Dorothea Rose Shidkel of Terre Haute who taught in Marshall school last year will join Woodrow Wilson Junior high in Terre Haute. Miss Grayce Broadhurst who taught in local grade schools last year will teach at Hook school in Terre Haute.
Rev. E. S. Wamsley of Indianapolis will speak at the Clark county picnic Sunday September 11 at Garfield Park in Indianapolis. Wamsley is a former Martinsville Methodist pastor and well known to Marshall residents.
State's Attorney Everett Connelly is in Brazil Indiana receiving treatments and is reported to be considerably better. His condition has improved since the start of care and he is expected to resume official duties when discharged.
The cornerstone laying for the new Masonic temple will occur at 3 00 o'clock Monday afternoon with the Marshall Chamber of Commerce Band providing music. Haven Stephens of Danville will serve as Grand Master, and Harry Leggett of Casey will be present as deputy grand master of the 82nd district. After the ceremony, third degree work will be conducted in the evening.
At Monday evening’s board meeting Miss Dorothy Williams of Paris was hired to replace Miss Grayce Broadhurst of Terre Haute, who resigned to take a position in Terre Haute.
A town to town series lists multiple marriage pairs with ages and hometowns across Indiana. Names include James Thompson and Hallie Hammond in Sullivan and Terre Haute, plus Charles Milbourn and Susanna Stewart in South Bend and others in Casey, Charleston, West Union, Murdock, Martinsville, Westfield, and Lawrenceville.
Mrs. Martha Higginbotham 87 died Monday at her son William Higginbotham’s home in Wabash township after a nine year illness. Survived by two daughters Mrs William Farr Los Angeles Calif and Mrs Harry Black Terre Haute and six sons William Benjamin John near Marshall Jackson Clayton West Terre Haute Samuel Eureka Springs Ark. Funeral Wednesday at 2 pm Highland Lawn Cemetery Terre Haute. Mrs L Afrien and daughter Bill and Miss Minnie Asherman of Newark Ohio left after visiting cousins John Ek Dow and A G Dow.
The Clark county fair will run Tuesday through Saturday at the Martinsville fair grounds. The Strayer Amusement Company carnival arrives tomorrow from Crawfordsville. A large field of harness horses is expected with entrants from Charleston and Newton. Ponies will be given away daily for children. W W Merritt, former county farm adviser, offers a silver cup to the winner of the Utility Type Corn show. Corn displays are expected to be highly significant due to the year’s corn crop prospects.
Mr and Mrs Bert Mathews announce the marriage of their son Loral Mathews to Miss Zella Brown of Champaign. Rev A A Keck officiated at the Champaign Methodist church parsonage on Wednesday at 8:00 PM. The couple then moved to their apartment at 510 West Springfield Avenue Champaign. Mathews works for the Lloyd Store in Champaign.
Mr and Mrs Chase Burkhart announce the marriage of their daughter Eva Glenda to Mr Neil F Garvey on Sunday August twenty eighth nineteen twenty seven in LaHarone Illinois.
J. L. May's brother William H May died in Talbot Indiana on Saturday after a brief illness. May went to Talbot last week to be with him and returned home Sunday with Mrs May.
Lawrence Bruner assumed control of the O Hair filling station at Michigan Avenue and Sixth streets yesterday. Mrs. Chas Bruner will run the restaurant in the filling station, while Mr Bruner continues his nearby store operations.
Mr and Mrs C Montgomery of Marshall announce the engagement of their daughter Charlene to Earl C LeFever of Gary Indiana He is the son of Mr and Mrs J T Lefever of Oblon The wedding will be held on October first.
