The Wilfred Pearce cattle sale near Marshall last Saturday offered a large number of purebred horned Hereford cattle and drew buyers from four states. Ten head of spring calves sold for just over $2500 with show prospects. some calves may appear at Illinois and Indiana state fairs next year.
Mrs. Alice Manning secretary calls Clark county Crop committee to meet at 8:00 p m October 26 in the Marshall Methodist Church fellowship room. The gathering follows years of Wabash Valley Association work on Levee Six Lincoln Reservoir Mill Creek and North Fork watersheds with recent $100 000 grant for Lincoln Reservoir surveys and a $155 000 special project tour planned for Mill Creek watershed with officials from federal state and local levels. A welding service at Marshall Metal Products speeds watershed supply handling and a November 8 tour will visit upper Mill Creek structures ending around 4 30 p m. Dinner is at 6 30 and final plans occur on October 28. Levee Six and North Fork show no recent activity.
A public safety notice urges drivers to stop for school buses with flashing red signals. It notes two recent incidents where vehicles passed stopped buses endangering children. Police may seize licenses and issue heavy fines. drivers should slow, stay alert, and watch for crossing children in school zones.
Mr. and Mrs. William Elledge of Indianapolis announce the birth of a son on October 8 named Alan William. He has three sisters at home. Mrs. Elledge is Diana Kannmacher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Kannmacher, formerly of Marshall. Mr. Elledge is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Elledge.
Mr and Mrs Pearl Graham of West York Illinois celebrate fifty years of marriage with an open house at West York Methodist Church from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on October 81 relatives and friends invited gifts requested to be omitted. Riley Nicholson moved Tuesday from Paris Hospital to the home of his daughter Mrs Eugene Buckner and later to a home in Marshall.
City Council met October 11 with all members present. The council approved a $300 donation to the Boy Scouts drive. Discussions included plans for a new school and accompanying sidewalks sewers gas and electricity. Library Board reps requested a pledge of $500 toward the North Side School site for a library or civic building. Options on lagoon land were discussed with Fairboard and landowners, bids for a 1966 police car were approved, and the meeting adjourned.
Lula Thompson 91 of 1106 Plum Street Marshall Illinois died Tuesday at Union Hospital Terre Haute. Survived by six daughters, one son Vance, and many grandchildren. funeral 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Evangelical United Brethren Church with interment in Medsker Cemetery. John L. Finkbiner 78 of Marshall died Saturday at Union Hospital Terre Haute. Survived by wife Mary four sons Dean Roy Fenton one daughter Capt. Clark county Masonic lodges plan a district meeting in Casey on Monday October 25 at 7 30 p m. The event honors Roy L Carr for seven years as district deputy Grand Lecturer and invites all Master Masons. Roy R Crocker D D G M 20 B District.
Marshall fell 28 to 6 at Newton, hampered by injuries to Terry Jones and Dennis McConchie. Charleston enters Lions Field undefeated after a 36 to 6 win over Paris, with Newton’s early scoring and Marshall’s second half efforts highlighting a tough upcoming clash.
Mr and Mrs Vierling Murphy hosted a family reunion style dinner last Sunday with thirty five guests. Attendees included the Church families from Texas and Terre Haute, the Brannon and Merritt groups from Terre Haute, plus Mr. Pennel of Indianapolis and Mrs. Ella Flora and Mrs. Lavear Church of Terre Haute. The gathering honored Mrs Murphy’s mother Ella Flora who is 80 and sister Lavear Church who recently had a serious heart attack.
Arrangements set for Charles Koenig to be in the Clark county farm adviser’s office each Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. He will handle office calls, telephone calls, and farm visits until Farm Adviser Warren Bundy returns from study leave late January. Koenig is an assistant Farm Adviser in Jasper county and formerly a vocational agriculture instructor at Newton. Mrs. George Zimmerly learned of her brother Herbert Lee’s death in San Diego Monday. R. E. Bishop remains a patient at Crawford Memorial Hospital Robinson in room 203. Mrs. John S. Carpenter was admitted to Union Hospital Tuesday for surgery and is in room 502.
Civic groups and the Chamber of Commerce join with district thirty three of the Illinois Congress of Parents and Teachers to host the fall program for Marshall area residents. About 175 attended the 1965 gathering featuring district PTA leaders, new teachers, student teachers, and a talk on child development by Mrs. Elbert Tourangeau.

Twenty years ago in 1945 two Clark county men freed from Japanese prison camps came home over the weekend. Corporal William Buehler from six miles southeast of Marshall was among them.
Cadette Girl Scouts of troop 124 visited the Children's Home in Paris led by Mrs. Berniece Hoggatt. They toured the home, served cookies and Kool-Aid, and chose Carole Bigdom as an honorary member with plans to support more girls from the home.
Pf. Fenton R. Quinn son of Mr and Mrs Lillard Quinn of Dennison came home after being a Wake Island prisoner since February 1942. He was captured with Cpl. Buehler and held until Japan surrendered. Ten years ago Earl Smith age 65 of lower Wabash township was critically injured in a head on collision east of Marshall on 1 S Highway 40. Mr and Mrs James Dennis of Arcola announce the birth of a 7 pound 5 ounce son October 5 named John David their second child. Mrs Dennis is the former Mildred Murphy daughter of Mrs Thelma Murphy of Marshall. Marriage license Harold Craig 21 Martinsville and Bernice Wilkey 18 Martinsville Jimmy Dale Anderson 19 Casey and Carolyn Marie Goble 16 Casey.
The North Side School site in Marshall is described as a historic hub of education and culture. The library board proposes purchasing the site to build a community cultural center preserving generations of local heritage.
